UN SECRET EST UN SECRET [2008]
A SECRET IS A SECRET

Ephemeral installation consisting of 484 photographs to be peeled and 300 books to be collected
213 cm x 305 cm x 92 cm

I asked people, both known and unknown, to make their own portraits. The rule was simple: enter a photo-booth, wait for the machine to throw the picture out into the world, then enclose a secret, a confidence… a four-dollar confession. I gathered identities that told both the tragic and the ordinary of everyday life: the truth of being oneself, and the lies involved at times.

I made a family portrait of strangers.

At the opening, the public had to rip out the photos in order to discover, behind them, the person's confession: destroying identity in order to access intimacy. On the floor were 500 copies of an artist's book to take home, in which the secrets of all the participants were anonymously recorded.
