At the intersection of art, science, and literature, Le vide de la distance n’est nulle part ailleurs is the editorial paper extension of the installation This is Major Tom to Ground Control (2012). The book owes its title to the very first sentence produced by this device.

The publishing project began as a selection of 11,545 textual fragments taken from the 27,757 pages printed by the installation at its beginnings. First, through a strenuous 45 consecutive day reading performance where time became space, and only the digilent transcription of the retained text warded off the feeling of circular time, and of constantly re-reading identical pages. Afterwards, the long process of writing by copy-pasting the excerpts served to make sense of the disparate elements by charting a path, step by step, between the collected tracks.

The first pages of the book seem to evoke a night sky dotted with stars, gradually illuminating as the eye gets used to the darkness. While the blackness of the sky could mark the absence of visible stars in our horizon, here, black does not embody emptiness: on the contrary, it represents an overflow of information, a rough mass made of the raw text coming from the installation, condensed until it appears in superimposition.

The movement that seems to sweep across the surface of the paper finally reveals the hidden essence of things: an expansion that curiously recalls that of the Universe, and which gradually reveals the text that evolves as if in zero gravity within the page. Echoing these invisible waves that run endlessly through the cosmos, what was thought to be empty is full; it was just a matter of learning how to orchestrate it to reveal its contents.

アート、科学、文学の交差点にあるLe vide de la distance n'est nulle part ailleursは、インスタレーション「This is Major Tom to Ground Control」(2012)の編集用紙の拡張版である。
